On Wed., Jun. 27, the Greenwood Lake Commission hired USDA Wildlife Services to come to Thomas P. Morahan Park. They rounded up over 100 geese, put them in cages on trucks and took them to be killed. The geese were young and healthy. It was about population control. I believe they paid USDA around $20,000 (not positive about the amount.)
The commission said they knew of no better way; and said that if I had a better method of goose control I should come to the meetings to share it. I did some research but I don’t know enough about goose control to provide the answer.
This letter is a call for information. If anybody knows of a non-lethal method of goose control that is effective on a large body of water, please share it with the commission. It really made my heart hurt to watch the geese being rounded up and driven away to be killed.
