On Wednesday evening, Dec. 21, Imagine Warwick held its first event, “Circle of Light” at the Sanfordville Elementary School Peace Wall Memorial. This event was created to coincide with the winter solstice, one of the oldest known holidays in human history. A large gathering of Warwick residents came out to participate in this special program which highlighted music, poetry and songs of peace.
Members of Imagine Warwick believe that the success of this event was due to the support of many people in our community. We would first like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful musicians and singers who performed; to the Warwick Valley Central School District Superintendent, Dr. David Leach who made sure a sound system was provided and the pathway to the memorial was cleared and to the elementary school children who read poetry.
Also, a big thank you to friends and neighbors who answered our call for cedar, holly, ivy, and rosemary and members of the Bellvale Community who formed these greens into 100 beautiful posies which were handed out to attendees. Thanks also to one of our neighbors who provided the fire pit for the bonfire and those who volunteered to light the many candles that illuminated the pathway and the circular stone wall. What a beautiful evening! It was exactly what we had hoped – a beautiful, shared, community experience that seemed to deeply touch and move us all.
