So many of us notice little things around the Village; it’s part of the nature of this community to pay attention. Sometimes it brings us to action; sometimes it leads us into conflict. But no one can doubt that a very high percentage of the citizens care, and care deeply.
It’s election time for mayor, and as someone who has studied our history at length, I do not think there is an official of this Village who came even close to Michael Newhard. He has not only cared and paid close attention but has given concerted and heartfelt effort over more than a decade to improve life for the residents and businesses. Substance linked with aesthetics has been a powerful combination under his leadership. So many enhancements that make things better and also add to Village property values.
Now we are in a process to discover what it is we want of our Village for the future. One of the divisive questions is “do we want commercial growth to gradually overtake our residential neighborhoods?” No matter on which side you land in regard to Elm St., there can be no doubt that Mayor Newhard represents careful, creative forward thinking of the sort that’s of great value for the continuing successful story of “The Queen Village.”
