Poppy Project Connects Village of Warwick with British Town
Editor,
What a surprise I have had this week!! As a British citizen living in Pennsylvania with ancestors from Warwick, England, poppies have come to my mind and I have been knitting.
I plan to be in Warwick, UK on Nov. 11 in honor of my dad’s service in France and my uncle’s ultimate sacrifice there in 1916. Now I have just realized that your little Village of Warwick, NY has made a connection with that British town.
What’s more amazing – during the years 1962-1963 I lived in Warwick and taught at Hamilton Avenue School in your Village! I’m so excited to be a double part of commemorating the horror that was the First World War. As soon as the weather settles I will be driving north to touch base again with my memories of Warwick, NY and leave a poppy or two.
RICKI WEBB
It is amazing when two parts of our lives come together, it reminds us that we are all connected. How wonderful that you will be honoring your father and uncle in France this November. It’s important that we never forget those who served and sacrificed so much for us. My own father died in Belgium during WWII and, though I never got to know him, I will always honor his memory.
God bless and have a safe and memorable trip.
That is amazing. Please ask RickiWebb to make contact and we will certainly meet up on November 11 in Warwick UK. Christine & Stephen Cross
There are 2 names on the war memorial in Warwick UK. Private Robert Webb 1884 – 12 October 1916 & Sgt William Webb year of birth unknown killed 11 January 1915 both Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Which one is Ricki Webb related to?
