I am writing on behalf of the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry to express gratitude and thanks to Scoutmaster Kevin Brand and Boy Scout Troop 45. Last weekend, the pantry received from Troop 45 an uncountable number of bags of canned and boxed groceries, as well as six hundred and ten dollars ($610) in cash, for the benefit of the pantry and our less fortunate neighbors.
They brought food items from their own homes to jumpstart success of this effort. Then, as part of a Troop project, they planned and executed a food and fundraising drive over a six-hour period last weekend at ShopRite of Warwick. The result is the stunning donation Troop 45 made to the pantry.
As a long-serving volunteer at the pantry, I see firsthand the effects of food insecurity, and the hunger and distress that follow right here in Warwick. We who volunteer at the pantry do what we can in support of the pantry’s mission to help alleviate hunger. To accomplish that, we rely upon the generosity of the community to help keep the shelves well stocked. The members of Troop 45, together with customers of ShopRite last weekend, are among the many people in our community whose generosity provides so well for the pantry.
I am grateful and give thanks for all of the food and money that arrived at the pantry as a result of their efforts. I also am grateful for the leadership of people like Scoutmaster Kevin Brand, who strives to instill in our young Scouts an understanding of the importance and satisfaction of sharing with others some of what they have.
