About 350 Warwick Valley High School (WVHS) students in Warwick NY participated in a voluntary walkout on Wed., Mar. 14, which was held as a silent memorial to the 17 lives lost on Feb. 14 at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, FL. The walkout at the high school was organized by members of the WVHS Student Senate. At 10 a.m., the students left the school, gathered in the parking lot, stood silently for 17 minutes, and then went back inside. The event was supervised by several members of the District staff. Local police were also on site as an added precaution and the parking lot was closed to traffic. Students who did not wish to participate stayed in their classes with their teachers.
