Story by Lon Tytell
“Who doesn’t like kickball,” said Carl Short, who has recently started a kickball league for adult men and women in Warwick. “We want people to play a competitive game, have fun, get some exercise, and help the Warwick Food Pantry and the Backpack Snack Attack program.”
Each member of the Warwick Adult League Kickball (WALK) will be asked to bring items for the Warwick Food Pantry starting on Fri., Jun. 2, when the new league officially begins play at Veterans Memorial Park in the Village of Warwick. There are currently seven teams in the league with games set to start at 6:40 and and 8 p.m. The goal of the new league is to have ten teams. The cost per player is $30 and the total cost of the team is $350. Anyone interested in playing should visit firstname.lastname@example.org.
The kickball league started because of the declining interest in maintaining a softball league. Short then asked those who participated in the softball competition if they were wanted to play kickball and was amazed at the response. At the end of the kickball season, tentatively scheduled for the second weekend in July, there will be a barbeque, family activities and a check presentation to the Warwick Food Pantry and the Backpack Snack Attack.
