When Reverend Craig Adams, Jr., the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church located at 5 Wisner Rd. in Warwick, accepted the position to lead the congregation back in 1996, he shared his vision to build a Ministry Center for the people of Warwick. After years of prayer and months of planning, Calvary Baptist Church rejoices in the completion of the 9,400-square-foot building, which sits adjacent to its existing church building.
The building currently includes a gym with basketball and volleyball courts and a youth group room where one can find 20 to 30 teens every Friday night. The Ministry center is for both parishioners and non-parishioners alike.
“We wanted to provide a place for the people of Warwick to form relationships while being active, and some even a little competitive,” says Pastor Adams. Step inside the gym on any given Mon. or Tues. night when men’s basketball is going on, or on Fri. nights when the youth group breaks out into a game of “4-Corner Invasion” or “3-Team Volleyball,” and you will find just that. Included in the church’s future plans for additional activities, are providing a safe place for seniors to walk during the cold months, and a women’s volleyball game.
As a solid, Bible-centered church, Calvary Baptist Church has been making an impact throughout the Warwick community, not only within the walls of the church, but by participating in community outreach initiatives, including their annual Applefest presence, Vacation Bible School, Harvest Party, Live Nativity, Abilities Day, and the donation of the curvy slide to Warwick Playground Dreams.
All are invited to join the congregation as they rejoice in God’s provision at a Building Dedication Service to be held on Sun., Mar. 3 at 4 p.m. There will be refreshments following the service. For more information call Jane Adams at 986-2137.
