Chief of Police Thomas McGovern Acknowledged for 40 Years of Service

Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton honored Town of Warwick Police Chief Thomas McGovern on Thurs., Apr. 12, presenting him with a certificate acknowledging his 40 years of service to Warwick. Sweeton said that Chief McGovern has helped keep the Town safe and congratulated him on his commendable service.
April Designated Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month
The Town of Warwick Board passed a resolution officially designating April as Prevention of Animal Cruelty month. This designation reminds everyone that animals have rights to the five freedoms, which are freedom from hunger, thirst, and malnutrition; freedom from fear and distress; freedom from physical and thermal discomfort; freedom from pain injury and disease; and freedom to express normal patterns of behavior.
The Warwick Humane Society will host a rabies clinic on Sun., Apr. 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The cost of the recommended yearly shot is $15 per pet and cash is recommended.
The Humane Society will host a golf outing on Mon., May 7. The 18-hole golf outing will be held at the Mansion Ridge Golf Course in Monroe and golfers are needed. Lunch will be provided and raffles will be held. For more information or to sign up, call 986-7174.
The Humane Society and the Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center will host the Sunset at Winslow event on Sat., Jun. 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Winslow Therapeutic Riding Center, located at 1433 Rte. 17A in Warwick. Environmental Awareness Events
Sustainable Warwick will sponsor their “Too Good To Toss” event on Sat., Apr. 21 and Sun., Apr. 22 at Stanley-Deming Park on South St. in Warwick. Residents can drop off items on Saturday and on Sunday, residents can shop for free among the items donated.
The Board passed a resolution recognizing Fri., Apr. 27 as Arbor Day. Festivities will be held at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park in Greenwood Lake starting at 11 a.m.
Finally, on Sat., Apr. 28 and Sun., Apr. 29, the Warwick Chamber of Commerce will supply garbage bags for a Town cleanup weekend. The Chamber invites residents to volunteer to pick up any trash along Town roads.
Town to Establish Energy Benchmark
The Town Board passed a resolution that created an energy benchmark for certain municipal buildings owned by the Town. The benchmark will be monitored by the office of the Town of Warwick Controller and led by their commissioner.
The benchmark will be based on a national average of buildings of approximately the same size. The benchmark was created in hopes of promoting public health, safety and welfare by producing the information that will allow for costs to be cut and pollution to be limited.
Senator Bonacic Supplies Additional Funding for Roads
New York State Senator John Bonacic wrote a letter to the Town Board informing them that the Town will receive additional funds from New York State this year. Supervisor Sweeton said that state funding is normally around $250,000 but because of severe winter conditions, Bonacic was able to fight for about $440,000 for the second year in a row. The funding will be used to pave and rebuild roads in the Town.
Beautiful People to Open New Fields
Beautiful People, an organization that works with children with disabilities, will open their new baseball field and pavilion next to Wickham Lake on Sun., May 20. The fields will also be available for public use. Beautiful People is a quickly growing organization that was recently recognized as an organization by Orange County.
Davey Resource Group to Inventory Trees
The Board approved a bid from the Davey Resource Group to carry out a tree inventory in the Towns community forest. The inventory will provide records of the species, size, condition, and maintenance requirements for the trees and for the forest as whole. The bid was to not exceed costs of $19,975.

The next regular meeting of the Warwick Town Board will be held on Thurs., Apr. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warwick Town Hall, located at 132 Kings Hwy. in Warwick NY.
