Members of the St. Peter Lutheran Church hosted a picnic on Patriot Day, Sun., Sept. 11 at the Pine Island Park to honor those who have served in the military and first responders. The church usually holds its annual picnic the Sunday after Labor Day. This year, Pastor Tim Anderson and the Church Council, with the help of the Ladies Aid Society, decided to do something different.
“As much as we reflect upon the history of what happened 15 years ago on September 11, 2001, we have to thank those veterans, first responders and others who put their lives on the line for us every day to ensure our safety. We invited them to our picnic as a way of thanking them for their services,” said Carol Long, the president of the Ladies Aid Society.
