A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony of the newly built restrooms and pavilion was recently held at the Ben Winstanley Park, located at 133 Windermere Ave. in Greenwood Lake. The ceremony took place in memory of Greenwood Lake Lions Club Past President Sharon Gehler and to celebrate the new the park’s restrooms and pavilion.
The next step will be a concession stand in the later future. This project started by Sharon Gehler, who passed away several years ago. Lions President Monica Conway and Lions Member Arnett Jones continued in Sharon’s memory to keep her project alive.
“Lion Sharon Gehler’s dream after her passing was kept alive by past President Lion Arnett Jones and the members of The Greenwood Lake Lions. With countless fundraisers, a grant from Lions International, and Mike Sweeton, phase one of Sharon’s dream has been accomplished. Thank you to everyone who continues to support us in supporting our Village. And a thank you to Katheleen Holder of the Greenwood Lake Soccer Club for all your help and support,” said Conway.
After Sharon’s passing, Lions members knew how much this project meant to her and adopted Sharon’s President Project as their own. The Lions Club recently presented $30,000 to the Town of Warwick to make Sharon’s dream come true. The Lions plan on making a plaque in her memory in the near future.
