Additional volunteers are needed to help deliver meals for Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Warwick. Last year, 13,732 meals were delivered to members of the community who are temporarily or permanently unable to prepare meals for themselves. The program allows seniors to remain in their preferred environment (their home) for as long as possible. Regular contact with MOW volunteers means that clients are “checked in on” and may be the only people clients socialize with.
To become a MOW volunteer call 986-3389 and leave a message. Applications and a letter of recommendation are required and training is provided. Routes are mapped out for ease of delivery and all meals are labeled, packed and sorted according to routes by MOW route captains for the drivers. Each route takes an hour or less to deliver and volunteers generally deliver two or more times a month, depending on their availability. A valid drivers’ license is required.
