The Warwick Valley Community Center (WVCC), with the help of local teen groups, is preparing for the OCNY Pride Parade to be held on Sun., Jun. 10. The event is a celebration of the LBGTQ community. Friends, family and advocates are welcome.
The pre-parade party will start at 11:30 a.m. in the Community Center, located at 11 Hamilton Ave. in Warwick NY, with a free rainbow bagel brunch. Attendees are invited to paint banners, decorate floats and put on body art. There will be local support groups and vendors to browse.
The parade will kick off at 1.30 p.m., proceeding from the Community Center to Orchard St., Railroad Green, South St., Main St., and returning to the Center for performances and a magic show, cupcakes and lemonade. The day’s activities will wrap up at 4 p.m.
Those joining in the celebration are encouraged to bring kazoos, drums or other musical instruments and join the march. Community groups are welcome to march under their own banners.
Students from the WVCC Youth Advisory Board, the Warwick Library Teen Advisory Board, and attendees at the recent high school STEAM fair have been making peace flags to decorate the Pride Parade route and floats. They will gather at 7 p.m. at the WVCC on the following Wednesdays: May 30 and Jun. 6. To volunteer for the event call the Community Center at 986-6422.
