The Classic Choral Society, which is entering its 60th anniversary year, extends an invitation for new members to join. An enthusiastic group of volunteer singers gathered in 1959 to perform Handel’s Messiah to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Blooming Grove Congregational Church.
They had such an enjoyable experience they decided to continue singing together and named themselves the Classic Choral Society. Almost 60 years later, they are still singing together – in the same church (now the Blooming Grove United Church of Christ), making them unquestionably the oldest music organization in Orange County in continuous operation.
Rehearsals for their December concert will begin on Mon., Sept. 10. Auditions are not required and rehearsals are held on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 at the Blooming Grove United Church of Christ, located at 2 Old Dominion Rd. in Blooming Grove, NY.
The group will present concerts on Sun., Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen, NY and on Sun., Dec. 23 at 4 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Blooming Grove, NY.
