The Warwick Community Garden will hold its mid-winter kickoff meeting on Sat., Feb 24 at 11 a.m. at the Warwick Community Center, located at 11 Hamilton Ave. in Warwick, NY. The meeting is open to all, including returning members, as well as residents thinking about joining and looking for information.
Warwick’s Community Garden works differently than most community gardens in that it is truly a community garden, as opposed to a group of garden beds or plots that are rented for the season by individuals or families. In the separate beds model, people decide what they want to plant and are responsible for doing all the work on their bed. The Warwick Garden is one big plot where the members decide what they want to plant.
This year for the first time, the Warwick Community Garden will be linked with the Community Orchard, which consists of approximately 35 fruit trees that were planted after Warwick won a nationwide competition. The annual fee for membership in both the Garden and the Orchard is $35 for individuals and families. Weather permitting, there will be quick walk-throughs of both the garden and orchard, which are located on the grounds of the Community Center.
