The Greenwood Lake community came together on Thurs., Dec. 14 for the lighting of the Menorah to celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah. Residents and Village officials gathered on the front lawn of the Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance building, located at 74 Windermere Ave. in Greenwood Lake.
Mayor Jesse Dwyer and Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm were among those in attendance. Mayor Dwyer opened the ceremony by thanking the community for coming together for the lighting. Rabbi Jonathan Zimet, of Congregation B’Nai Torah led the community in prayers and songs and then gave a brief history of Hanukkah.
After the Menorah was lit, the community was invited back to the Village Hall for refreshments. Greenwood Lake residents Jessica Lewis and Helaine Lasko prepared the celebration in Village Hall. Jelly donuts and juice were provided as well as homemade goodie bags containing gelt and dreidels for the children. Lewis wanted to make this special for all the children and for the entire community as they gathered to celebrate Hanukkah.
