The Greenwood Lake Theater will present their 2019 Winter Intensive Workshops for students ages 11 and up. The workshops will be held at the new G.L. Teen Center, located at 51 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake NY. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare and learn basic on-camera techniques for film acting, prepare a song to act on stage in a musical, and perform in front of a live audience. They will also learn how to present a monologue from a stage play. All sessions will be offered on Saturdays and the tuition is $150 per student.
The one-day sessions will teach students the basics of acting on stage and in front of a camera. Students will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals and each session will culminate in a performance in front of a live audience or on film.
Film Intensive Workshop
A Film Intensive Workshop will be offered on Sat., Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children age 11 and older. Antonio De La Cruz will be the guest artist and director. Actors will prepare short scenes and learn basic on-camera techniques in the morning. After lunch, the class will view a screening of a short film “The Police,” from the feature film, “Three From the Block,” directed by Antonio De La Cruz. In the afternoon, participants will film a short script from start to finish, directed by Mr. Cruz. Footage will be provided to the actors. Registration will close for this workshop on Sat., Jan. 12.
Musical Theater Intensive Workshop
A Musical Theater Intensive Workshop will be held on Sat., Feb. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 7 p.m. performance of “Anti-Valentine’s Day Cabaret.” The workshop is open to children age 11 and older. Singers will spend the session working on vocal technique, the approach to a musical theater song, acting technique, movement within the song, and finding the “turning point.” Singers will bring in a memorized song for this session to work on in class. This song will be included in the themed Anti-Valentine’s Day Cabaret that will be performed live at 7 p.m. that evening. A dinner break to be provided between 4 and 6 p.m.
Monologues & Scenes Workshop
A Monologues and Scenes Intensive Workshop will be held on Sat., Mar. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children age 11 and older. Actors should come prepared with a memorized monologue and they will work on acting technique, approach, sectioning off the monologue, turning points, movement within the piece, and the overall presentation. The afternoon will be scene work with the actors paired up with partners and given a scene to prep and work.
