Hundreds of children came out dressed to impress and to gather tasty treats at the Trunk or Treat event put on by the Golden Hill Elementary PTA in Florida on Sat., Oct. 28. The sun was shining making it a perfect day for the children to walk around to the 30 participating decorated car trunks and collect candy. This year was the first time Golden Hill has hosted a Trunk or Treat event and it was a great success.
Florida School PTA President Kevin Lundell was on hand on Saturday facilitating the event and shared what made this first one so special.
“Hosting this Trunk or Treat means a great deal to the Florida community. Christine Lupinski always wanted the PTA to put on this type of an event and we’re dedicating the first one in her memory. Some of the cars have blue balloons tied to their trunks in her memory,” said Lundell.
Lupinski was an active member of the Florida PTA who passed away in May of 2017. The Florida PTA and Golden Hill Elementary put on the Trunk or Treat event in her honor.
Along with the decorated car trunks, the Florida Fire Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department participated in the event handing out candy to children and telling them about their departments. The 501st Legion, a non-for-profit group, also participated in the festivities by providing a movie worthy Darth Vader impersonator for children to take photos with. The Warwick Humane Society was also present handing out candy in animal inspired costumes.
During the event, there was also a 50/50 raffle, a brick-oven pizza truck, and plenty of candy for the children. Among the decorated car trunks were a pirate ship, a magic rainbow, a graveyard scene from Beetlejuice, a day at the beach, a jail, and a fortune teller’s booth. Many of the trunks were decorated with cobwebs, skeletons, and other Halloween decorations. The trunks were hosted by families of Golden Hill Elementary students and teachers from the Florida School District.
At the end of the event all the children gathered for a costume parade and marched around the school parking lot to show off their costumes to family and friends. The Trunk or Treat event was an overall success for Golden Hill and the Florida community.
