The Laker Kids Club from Greenwood Lake held a car wash fundraiser on Sat., Jun. 2 at the G.L. Middle School. The students were joined by some of their teachers and community members, family, friends, and passersby stopped to have their cars washed on a hot, sunny Saturday morning.
The Laker Kids Club was created by fifth grade teachers Maureen Joseph, Ellen Collins and G.L. Middle School Principal Jeffrey Golubchick and a group of fifth grade students. The students and teachers meet after school and during lunchtime to collaborate on ideas and organize events and fundraisers.
The group has held several events throughout the school year including bake sales. They also participated in a 5K Run. All the proceeds from these events went to various organizations. The girls raised almost $400 for www.myface.org, $1,600 for hurricane victims, $250 for their 5K walk, $300 was raised during their bake sales, and the car wash raised $325. The club will also be donating another $400 to Children’s Mental Health Voices for Change.
“The Laker Kids have worked really hard raising money for organizations that they feel are important. These Laker Kids are passionate about helping others, they have the biggest hearts! It has been our pleasure working with these young ladies and we look forward to doing so much more next year,” stated Mrs. Joseph & Mrs. Collins.
The Laker Kids would like to thank their parents and the G.L. community for all of their support.
