Hurricane Maria left a trail of mass destruction on the island of Puerto Rico, changing the lives of Puerto Rican residents. As the island struggles to recover, the American people of Puerto Rico are suffering this great loss without the basic essentials like water, food and electricity.
The Warwick community has always shown itself to be one comes together to help others in times of need. Frances Bachmann, the former owner of FriYo in Warwick, has organized a fundraiser to be held on Sun., Oct. 15 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Warwick Wine Garden and Piano Bar, located at 22 McEwen St. in Warwick in an effort to raise funds and collect the non-perishable items so desperately needed.
A suggested list of donations that can be brought to the event include: bottled water, batteries, flashlights, feminine products, diapers, baby formula, dry milk, non-perishable food items, first aid kits, latex gloves, aspirin/Tylenol/Advil, etc., footwear such as flip flops, bug repellent, baby wipes, Clorox wipes, toiletries, and pet food.
Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased at Sun Indulgence, located at 125 Rte. 94 in Warwick. There will be a silent auction, a tricky tray and a 50/50 with music provided by local DJ C4. Rhina Valentin, the talk show host of OPEN and Colors of Rhina on Bronxnet, will act as Master of Ceremonies. All proceeds will go to the Hispanic Federation, a non-profit membership organization founded in 1990 to help support Hispanic families and strengthen Latino institutions.
