For the month of December, fine art painter Mitchell Saler will be the Greenwood Lake Public Library’s artist of the month. Mitchell’s work will be on display at the Library, which is located at 79 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake.
Mitchell paints landscapes that are grand and simple. His collection includes many recognizable scenes both in the Hudson Valley and places where he has traveled, with pieces that depict a single piece of nature sprinkled in. His works emphasize vastness, dramatic lighting and atmospheric effects. This exhibition will relate to the theme of water, with two paintings in the show illustrating Greenwood Lake.
Growing up in Middletown, Mitchell graduated in 2009 with an Associate’s Degree in Visual Arts from Orange County Community College. He proceeded to work at the school as a Graphic Artist and Technical Assistant in the Cultural Affairs department. In 2011, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at New Paltz. The University also awarded him the Alex Martin Scholarship.
He has been exhibiting in various venues and is a represented artist at the Wallkill River School. He is a board member of the Goshen Art League and a member of the Wallkill River School and Art Gallery, the Orange County Arts Council, the Middletown Art Group, and the Lower Hudson Valley Plein Air Painters. His website is www.mitchellsaler.com and he can be found on Facebook.
