On the second Wednesday of every month Florida Union Free School District Board Superintendent Jan Jehring is holding a “Superintendent’s Forum” at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The goal of the forum is to offer an informal and open dialogue with community members about relevant topics. At the Florida School Board meeting on Tues., Nov. 22, it was reported that there were eight people in attendance at the first meeting on Nov. 9.
Questions were raised about the school budget; recycling; the teaching of foreign languages; and if questions from the public could be asked during a Board work session. Board Vice President John T. Redman II said that the Board will allow questions from the public for a limited amount (15 to 20 minutes). Questions can also be submitted in an email, letter or in person.
“This will be in line with open communication with the community,” said Redman.
The next school board meeting will be held on Thurs., Dec. 15 at 7.30 p.m. at the S.S. Seward Memorial Building, located at 51 N. Main St. in Florida.
