Volunteers with the Town of Warwick’s Friendly Visitor Program (FVP) are ready to help. The FVP will link trained volunteers with seniors and adults with disabilities in the Town and Village of Warwick, the Village of Greenwood Lake, the Village of Florida, and the hamlet of Pine Island. People who live alone and enjoy their independence may occasionally need assistance to manage in their own home.
The volunteers can assist by providing: transportation to appointments, help with grocery shopping, home visits, periodic phone calls, clerical assistance, or playing a card game, reading or chatting. There is no charge for the service.
All volunteers participate in four hours of training and are then matched to a neighbor in need for any of the services listed above. The volunteer may provide a regularly scheduled service with a neighbor or perhaps a one-time or occasional assistance. The FVP Coordinator will ensure that the neighbor and volunteer match is one that works well for both individuals.
Anyone who could benefit from the Friendly Visitor Program can call the Warwick Town Hall at 986-1124 and select option #1 for more information. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, can also call the Town Hall or visit www.townofwarwick.org.
How to Volunteer
Volunteer training is offered on an ongoing basis so it’s never too late to volunteer. Volunteer hours are flexible and can help a neighbor age in place and enjoy their independence. Background checks on volunteers are included and volunteers are insured for personal liability while they are providing a program service.
