The Greenwood Lake Elementary School hosted their annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Fri., Nov. 9. For over ten years, the third grade students along with their third grade team of teachers and principal have been hosting a Veterans Day breakfast to honor the men and women who have served their country.
“As the parent of a 1st Lieutenant currently serving in the United States Army, I feel especially proud and honored to celebrate our local veterans and teach our young students about the importance of expressing respect and thanks to all who have served our great nation,” said Principal Dianne Connolly.
The gymnasium was decorated beautifully with tables set up with red, white and blue colors and flowers were displayed in center of the tables. This year a wall of honor was displayed on the gymnasium wall honoring all those who have served.
The wall of honor will remain up all year. Students sang songs during the event. Boy and girl scouts were dressed in uniform. As the Veterans each took a turn introducing themselves and spoke about their experience, they received loud applause and cheers from the audience thanking them for their service.
Mayor Jesse Dwyer spoke to the audience and also thanked the Veterans. Following the ceremony, the Veterans and their families were served a delicious breakfast by parent volunteers and spent some time enjoying each other’s company.
