The Greenwood Lake School Board held their monthly meeting on Tues., May 15, the same day as the annual budget vote and election of Board members.
Proposition 1 on the ballot, the 2018-2019 Budget, stated, “Shall the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District Budget for 2018-19 in the amount of $26,644,325 be approved?” A total of 192 yes votes were received and a total of 70 no votes were received.
Capital Reserve Fund
Proposition 2, Amend Capital Reserve Fund Title, stated, “Shall the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District, Orange County, NY be authorized to increase the maximum amount of the Districtwide Improvements and Bus Purchase Capital Reserve Fund established in 2017 by $2,500,000 during the remaining term of such Capital Reserve Fund?” A total of 180 yes votes were received and a total of 81 no votes were received.
Board of Education Seats
Five candidates ran for four open seats. The results are as follows: John Finn (204), Thomas O’Brien (198), Barbara McInerney (181), Michele Kayser (149), and Ronald Sommer (143). Write in votes were cast for John Finn and Susan Trazino.
Board Member Receives Awards
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steven Cohen presented Board of Education member Susan Selser with two awards on behalf of the NYS Boards Association for having earned the School Board U Recognition Program. Dr. Cohen thanked Susan for her dedication and service.
Patricia Wark, vice president of the PTSA, offered congratulations to the two new PTSA members, Rebecca Frey and Melissa Apuzzo. They will begin their positions in July. Wark also thanked Catherine Sommer and Carissa Cupo for their dedication over the last several years. Both Sommer and Cupo did not seek re-election.
Village liaison Katheleen Holder, who was not in attendance, submitted her report via email. The Summer Concert series and event schedule are posted on the Village website and on the Summer Concert series facebook page. Concert and event cards are also available at the G.L. Village Hall. Events will run from now through September.
The next meeting will be held on Wed., Jun. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Elementary School gymnasium, located at 80 Waterstone Rd. in Greenwood Lake.
