The Greenwood Lake Lions Club held their annual chicken barbecue on Sun., Sept. 11 at the Elks Pavilion in Greenwood Lake. All 300 tickets were sold, over 800 pounds of chicken was prepared and over 375 meals were served.
All proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Sharon Gehler’s President’s Project to build a restroom and concession stand at the Ben Winstanley Park in the Village of Greenwood Lake. The project was started several years ago by past president Sharon Gehler, who recently passed away.
The Lions have been working with Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton who has agreed that if the Lions could come up with half of the estimated $60,000 to $65,000 needed to complete the project, the Town, which owns the field, will match the funds. Thus far the Club has raised two-thirds of their portion, no small feat with only 15 members.
