About 170 residents from the Greenwood Lake Community came together on Sun., Mar. 5 to support the 18th Annual Greenwood Lake Bowling Fundraiser. All proceeds will benefit the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry and the Hudson Valley Honor Flight.
Dave Kinney, the general manager of the Pin Street Bowling Alley, located at 154 Rte. 94 in Warwick, provided the venue for the event which, this year generated $5,700. The money raised through raffles, entry fees, and monetary donations will be split 50/50 between the two causes.
This is the third year that Maureen and Joe Anthony have co-chaired the event. Over the last 17 years approximately $75,000 has been distributed. The bowling committee, made up of Peggy Clark, Marie and Mathew Veth, Beth and Bill Farrell, Pat Olsen, Maureen and Joe Anthony, Doreen and Brian Donnelly, Erin Murphy and Dorie Ostrowski, started organizing this year’s event in January.
“I am excited for this day because it is always a success. It seems that everybody from the Greenwood Lake community comes together to help the two causes,” said Peggy Clark, who was nicknamed “the legs of the operation.”
Greenwood Lake resident Toni Schreyer, who has bowled for four years, came this year with her family and her boyfriend. Her sister, Tara, wore dog tags from their uncle, an Air Force Veteran who passed away on Mar. 5, 2016.
Another Greenwood Lake resident, Tom Clark, who has bowled in the competition for 16 years, enjoys the competition with his friend Greg Decker. “Greg always want to beat me but never does,” said Clark.
Aarin Gassner, also a Greenwood Lake resident, has bowled for the last three years in the fundraiser. “We like seeing the members of the Greenwood Lake community. Bowling, drinking and eating are loads of fun,” said Gassner.
The food was donated by ShopRite of Warwick and West Milford, Murphy’s Tavern, Emerald Point, Nasim Country Grocery, and Bagel Time. Other sponsors included Irish Whisper, American Legion Post 1443, Pin Street Bowling Alley in Warwick, Dana Distributors, Manhattan Beer Distributors, Oak Beverage and numerous other local businesses.
