Greenwood Lake will kick-off the holiday season on Sun., Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, located at 62 Windermere Ave. in Greenwood Lake. Enjoy a cup of eggnog or hot chocolate, grab a bite to eat and sing along to some holiday tunes from DJ Bob Whytock while getting holiday shopping done early at the vendor fair.
Vendors include local artist Chris Vanvooren, Artist by the Lake, Life is Sweet Cupcakery, Urban Metal, GWL Bark Park, Art and Woodworking, handmade doll clothes, Dk Designer Krafts, LuLaRoe, Pampered Chef and many more. The local boy scouts and girl scouts will be selling goodies as well. Other activities include: a gingerbread house contest, face painting, warming stations, an ugly sweater contest, photos with Santa (sponsored by the G.L. Chamber of Commerce) and live performances.
Gingerbread House Contest
Greenwood Lake will sponsor their first Gingerbread House Contest this year and all submissions will be displayed in the windows of businesses on Windermere Ave. in Greenwood Lake throughout the month of December.
These are the rules for entering the contest: anyone between the ages of five and 12 are eligible; entries must be built on a sturdy base that can be easily moved, such as cookie sheets, plywood or cutting boards; entries must be made of all edible materials, excluding the base; the house should not exceed 18” x 18”; and the house must be given a name. All entries can be dropped off at the G.L. Village Hall, located at 18 Church St., by Fri., Dec. 2.
Judging will be based on overall appearance, originality, creativity and theme. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners. An entry form which includes name, age, address and phone number must be submitted no later than Sat., Nov. 26. Entries can be dropped off at the Village Hall or emailed to CDwyer921@gmail.com.
Ugly Sweater Contest
The Ugly Sweater Contest will take place at 4:30 p.m. during the Greenwood Lake Holiday Festival. A winner will be chosen from each age group, ages 13-17 and 18 and over. Submit an entry form by Sun., Nov. 27 and drop it off at the Village Hall or e-mail it to CDwyer921@gmail.com.
At dusk (about 5:30 p.m.), there will be a countdown as Santa lights the Village Christmas Tree to kick-off the Holiday season!
