The HERoes in Deed “HERo Run” was held on Sat., Jun. 10 at the Warwick Middle School. HERoes in Deed is a non-profit organization inspired by the memory of Army Lieut. Col. Jaimie E. Leonard, who was killed in Afghanistan on Jun. 8, 2013. Her sister, Liz Harman, organized the event to honor the memory of her sister.
Jaimie was an avid runner who ran for charity events while she was alive. Liz continued her charitable tradition today in Warwick with a kids’ run, a 5k race and a 10k race. The local VFW provided the flags for the pledge of allegiance and the horn player signaled the start of the day. After the race was off there was time to go check out the puppies from a therapy dog organization, run by Stacy Samela.
The runners all came in exhausted but with smiles on their faces. HERoes in Deed initiatives include hosting an annual HERo Run in Warwick each summer, partnering with the Warwick Historical Society to build a Nature Play Area, and offering scholarships to deserving Warwick High School students.
