The Village of Florida hosted its ninth annual Florida Family Fun Fest along with the 5k and 10k Family Fun Run on Sun., Aug., 14.
The Fun Run started in the Glenmere Park. Directors of the run-walk, Tom and Jo Ann Andryshak, prepared all of the necessary accommodations for the racers during the event. Both the 5K and 10K courses offered beautiful and scenic views that took runners and walkers through a loop, down to Houston St. and back around to the original starting point by Glenmere Lake. All registered runners and walkers received a 2016 event T-shirt.
Prizes were awarded to the top finalists in each age group, male and female. The top three overall winners were: in first place, Lorenzo Pretto, 15, of Harriman, NY with a finish time of 19:40; in second place, Celso Lojano, 32, of White Plains, NY with a finish time of 20:07; and in third place, Joseph Villani, 17, of Florida, with a time of 21:04.
Fun Fest kicked off with an opening ceremony of the American legion Color Guard, accompanied by Boy Scout Troop 44, and Girl Scout Troops 571 and 490 for the raising of the flag and singing of the National Anthem.
Following the opening ceremony was the award ceremony, where the 2016 Florida Family Fun Fest winners were announced.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Jan Jansen, president of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Town of Warwick Zoning Board of Appeals.
