The Warwick Historical Society (WHS) will host a Historic Cemetery Headstone Cleaning workshop on Sat., Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a rain date of Sun., Oct. 14. The workshop will be held at the Old School Baptist Cemetery which is located at the intersection of Rte. 17A and Forester Ave. in Warwick NY.
The WHS would like to honor the areas ancestors by keeping their memorials clean, but there are a few basic rules when cleaning or restoring old headstones. Early grave markers are very fragile and careful cleaning will prevent irreparable damage. Expert Marianne Greenfield will conduct the workshop to train volunteers on the proper methods of caring for these historic artifacts in order to preserve them in perpetuity.
The expert will supply the required solution. The Society will provide brushes and chopsticks, and ask that participants bring their own clean bucket. Workshop space is limited and registration is required. To register, for more information or to become a member of the WHS, call 986-3236, ext. 106 or visit www.whsny.org.
