A GoFundMe account has been created to help the Kunisch family after their home, located at 91 Walling Rd. in Pine Island, exploded around 3:30 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 29.
Fortunately, Denise Kunisch who was the only one in her home during the explosion managed to escape with minor injuries. Warwick Police Lt. Thomas Maslanka said that Mrs. Kunisch smelled gas inside the house and was planning to exit the home when it exploded while she was in the foyer in the front of the house.
After the explosion, Mrs. Kunisch thought she was trapped in the basement, but then realized she was in her backyard under a wall of her house. A neighbor came to her aid. Her three young children were on their way home from school and her husband, Craig, was at work.
Residents who live miles from the explosion felt the blast. According to Lt. Maslanka, when the Warwick Police and the Pine Island Fire Department arrived at the scene, the house had completely collapsed and was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from several fire departments including Warwick and Florida helped to put out the blaze.
The origin of the explosion is under investigation by the Warwick Police Department and by the Orange County Fire Investigators.

“We hope that the family is able to find comfort somewhere in the midst of this tragedy,” said Nicole McCormick, an Administrator of the group.
Within the first two hours of creating the account, $20,000 was raised. So far, over $88,000 has been raised. To make a donation visit https://www.gofundme.com/help-for-the-kunisch-family.
