The New York State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s office are conducting an investigation of a Police shooting in Warwick that occurred on Sat., Jun. 16 around 3 p.m. Town of Warwick Police Lt. Thomas Maslanka said that when Police Officers responded to a domestic incident at 24 Wheeler Ave. in the Village of Warwick, they encountered a suspect armed with a knife.
According to Lt. Maslanka, the Police ordered Dwayne Clyburn, 37, to drop his weapon. When Clyburn allegedly did not drop his weapon and approached the officers, he was shot by a Warwick Police Officer. He was then taken to St. Anthony Community Hospital, where he died.
Authorities have not yet released details about the incident or the names of the Police Officers. The Police Officer that shot Clyburn has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The investigation can take up to 60 to 90 days, and will go before a Grand Jury that will decide if the Officer acted within his jurisdiction.
