On Thurs., Apr. 13, the members of the Warwick Community Ambulance Jr. Corp witnessed a demonstration and discussion with members of the Warwick Police Department on the topic of narcotics. Officers Kevin Halsey with his dog Nikki as well as Vinnie Cossentino and his dog Tank, put on an impressive demonstration of the dogs capabilities in the area of drug interdiction and also detection of explosives. The officers discussed the dangers of narcotics as well as answered many questions from the members of the Junior Corps.
A demonstration of equipment used by the police to protect themselves and the public also served to impress the members present as well as the adult advisors. The evening finished off with a demonstration and discussion of the use of Narcan by first responders to combat opioid overdose. This was conducted by advisor Mike Luraschi. Overall, it was an extremely informative evening that was enjoyed by all. Next month the members of the Junior Corp will be participating in a joint extrication drill with the Warwick Fire Department to continue to expand the scope and depth of their training and emphasizing inter-agency cooperation.
