Story by Lourice Angie
It takes a Village of selfless people to be a part of something bigger – to unite creatively and help exhibit the true beauty of a community.
“Knitting Warwick Together” is a project to bring together the residents of Warwick who might never have met one another until this creative participation project. The trees in the Village of Warwick will be adorned with knitted/crocheted “sweaters” made from leftover yarn in a variety of colors.
They will be displayed in connection with the Warwick Summer Arts Festival and will stay on the trees until the end of August. At that time, they will be sewn together to make blankets for the homeless. Curated and organized by Pat Foxx, this volunteer-led organization of over 50 people is helping to create a festive look for the Village of Warwick’s Sesquicentennial celebration.
Anyone of any age can be involved as a knitter, crocheter, donator of yarn, helper, or as a teacher of knitting or crocheting. Everyone is invited to participate. For those who like to knit or crochet and want to take part in this project they can knit or crochet an eight inch wide flat strip of many colors and make it five feet long.
