After a very long winter, four local UPS drivers had a lucky spring awakening on Tues., Apr. 7 when they learned that the Powerball numbers they play twice a week had been drawn the previous Saturday evening. Having chosen four out of the five regular numbers plus the Powerball, the four had won a prize of $50,000; one number shy of the $74 million jackpot. Brian McCarthy (from left) who delivers in Sugarloaf and Warwick drivers, Dennis Miller, Tommy Dempsey and Stephen Rice, travelled to the New York State Lottery Center on Fri., Apr. 10, where they received their oversized prize checks. The four-person lottery pool was started by Rice three years ago.
