For the first time in Greenwood Lake’s history, we hosted 24 hockey teams from all over the tri-state area in a daylong hockey tournament on the lake. Being in the northeast, we know that having good ice is unpredictable. Having good enough ice for a massive hockey tournament like this was a long shot. But against the odds and with 30 days of planning, the event went on and was a huge success!
The vision for the event came from Mark Palmieri (The Helm) and Joe Romano. I cannot thank everyone enough who helped make the event a success – Mark, Joe, Frank Dieber, Joe Anthony from the Irish Whisper, our Greenwood Lake Police, and one of our local teams – the Dead Man’s Pond Pirates hockey team – who were out there with us countless nights working on the rinks. Events like this remind us how lucky we are to live in a four-season community that can sometimes make us feel like we’re on vacation!
On a final note, I am proud to announce that the proceeds of the event – $2,500 – will be donated to the Greenwood Lake Community Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol.
