There are still a few weeks left until summer is over and fall will be officially underway, but it’s September and that means school is back in session.
I’m sure parents, teachers, and students are excited to have the 2018-2019 year underway. I can still remember my first day at Golden Hill and the last day when I left Seward. It feels like the world has changed so much since then, and one change for this school year I’d like to talk about will be the addition of police officers stationed at our schools.
The Village of Florida and the Town of Warwick worked in conjunction with our school administration to arrange a police presence in our schools. At this time, I’d like to welcome Village of Florida Officers Greg Crisci and Brian Turner both of who are stationed at S.S. Seward, and Town of Warwick Officer James Feragola who is stationed at Golden Hill.
These officers are upstanding professionals, and, while we pray they will never be needed, they will be a secure presence throughout the school year to assure the safety of Florida’s children.
The above column, written by Village of Florida Mayor Daniel Harter, Jr., has been published in the Sept. 12 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
