Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard wrote the following in his column that was published in the Feb. 15 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch:
It’s only fitting that the students of Park Avenue and Sanfordville Schools selected a rose as the Village flower, especially this week that includes Valentine’s Day! With the help of the Warwick Lions and the Warwick Rotary Clubs, the Park Avenue gym was transformed into a nostalgic Valentine Dance including the big band sound of the New York Swing Exchange!
This is all part of the four seasons of events that the Sesquicentennial Committee has planned. The underlying themes are inclusivity, history and fun. Some of the other activities for February are:
- Fri., Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., Music at the Union: An evening of music with E’lissa Jones, including the Hudson Valley Ebony Strings. This is a free event sponsored by the U.A.M.E. Church and the Warwick Sesquicentennial Committee to celebrate Black History Month. The concert will be at the U.A.M.E. Church, 98 McEwen St.
- Sun., Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. the Warwick Historical Society will present “Centering Black Women: Race in the Women Suffrage Movement.” The program is in honor of Black History Month and will be held at the Historic U.A.M.E. Church, located at 9 Forester Ave. For info, call 986-3236, extension 101.
