Sun., Aug. 13 is the annual Florida Family Fun Fest. This year is the 20th year. This is a special day for the Florida Community that starts with the Run Fest at 8 a.m., with kick off at Glenmere Park.
Main St. will be closed to vehicles so people can stroll through it. Stop and have a bite to eat at the delicious food vendors, do some shopping, listen to the music coming from the bands that are located at each end of Main St., and enjoy the company of neighbors and friends. There will be many happy children riding on the rides, getting their faces painted and indulging in their favorite foods. This event runs from 1 to 8 p.m. The closing event for the day is the performance of the Jimmy Sturr Orchestra which will start around 6 p.m. Let’s hope that Mother Nature is on our side and produces a great weather day. Come out and have a great time.
I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the Village was busy with the installations of the new sidewalk on Maple Ave. It was necessary to restrict the amount of traffic on Maple Ave. in order to get the job done properly. Take the time to go down Maple Ave. and admire the fine job that was done.
Another major project that was recently completed is the enlarging and paving of the parking lot in back of the Village Hall. This was a project that was made possible with a grant obtained through Senator John Bonacic. There are now more parking spaces and there will be less run off onto the Fire Department’s property.
The above column, written by Village of Florida Mayor Jim Pawliczek, has been published in the Aug. 9 issue of the Warwick Valley Dispatch.
