New Jersey State Senator’s, Joseph Pennacchio and Nellie Pou, have entered legislation (bill #2167), as prime sponsors of this bill that would annually have the Greenwood Lake Commission receive $500,000 on a non-lapsing basis. These dedicated funds will be used to accomplish the Greenwood Lake Commission’s mandate to protect, preserve, restore, maintain, manage and enhance Greenwood Lake, which supplies water to over 3.5 million residents and thousands of state businesses.
“We are very optimistic going forward, that we have a good chance of passing this bill because a similar bill was signed into law by Gov. Christie for Lake Hopatcong,” said NJ Co-chair of the Commission, Paul Zarrillo. “It will take a concerted effort by all concerned parties but with the continued support from Freeholder Direction Terry Duffy, West Milford Councilman Tim Wagner and from everyone that uses the lake, I do believe we will make this happen.”
This legislation will have the most important effect on Greenwood Lake, since the original legislation establishing the Greenwood Lake Commission in 2002.
