During the Orange County Democratic Convention, Jen Metzger received a strong endorsement in her campaign for the NYS Senate, District 42. More than 150 committee members, representing 12 municipalities in the district, cast their votes in the race. Metzger won decisively with 73% of the vote, demonstrating the strength of her campaign in this large, geographically diverse district.
In her nominating speech, Chris Stage, Family Court attorney and Warwick Democratic Committee member, said, “I believe Jen Metzger is the best candidate because she can win this race and she can be a great senator for all of this district and the entire state. Jen has experience winning elections; she knows how to work with people of different viewpoints; and can do the hard work to find common ground and accomplish specific goals even when everyone else says it is impossible.”
Accepting the endorsement, Metzger told the gathering, “We can have strong public schools and fix the way they are funded. We can guarantee everyone access to the healthcare they need….We can build a clean energy economy so that projects like CPV don’t keep coming back. And we can have a government that truly represents us…Let’s build a lasting progressive movement in the Hudson Valley that speaks to the real needs of the people who live here, and to the health of our environment. I hope you’ll join me.”
The Orange County Democratic Committee joins a growing list of political and grassroots groups endorsing Metzger, including the Ulster County Democratic Committee, Citizen Action of New York, Ulster People for Justice & Democracy, and the Working Families Party.
