The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2016 Citizen of the Year. Letters of nomination should include the candidate’s name and a description of his or her credentials. The primary criterion for nomination should be service to the community during the past year, or over a longer period. Preference will be given to past or present Pine Island residents. Pine Island, in this context, is defined as the Pine Island Fire District, which includes the hamlets of Pine Island, Amity, and Little York, and Pulaski Highway to the Quaker Creek store.
The Chamber is also seeking nominations for outstanding youths to be recipients of the Young Citizens Achievement Award. Candidates should be high school students who have served their community as volunteers while maintaining good academic grades. Both the Citizen of the Year and the Young Citizens Achievement Award winners will be honored at the Chamber’s Annual Social and installation of officers on Sun., Oct. 30 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Landmark Inn, located at 526 Rte. 94 S, in Warwick. Nominations can be mailed to the Selection Committee, PICOC, P.O. Box 354, Pine Island, NY 10969 and must be received no later than Thurs., Sept. 22.
