The Town of Warwick Police Department along with the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team have been conducting an investigation into suspected narcotics distribution at #9 Smith St. off of South St. in the Village of Warwick. This investigation has been ongoing for several months.
As a result of the investigation in the early morning hours of Sat., Feb. 17, members of the Town of Warwick Police Department along with the T.R.U. team conducted a “no knock” search warrant on the upstairs apartment of #9 Smith St.
Police arrested Martin O. Portugal, 41, of #9 Smith St. Warwick NY. Inside the apartment police seized approximately five grams of cocaine. Portugal was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, felonies and two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree also felonies.
Portugal was being held at the Warwick Police station awaiting arraignment later today.
