The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual Pumpkinfest on Mon., Oct. 10 at the Pine Island Park. The event was chaired by Chamber member Jeanette Shanahan and brought out over 600 children and their families. Leonard DeBuck, president of the Pine Island Chamber, provided cornstalks and pumpkins to decorate the pavilion. John Redman, a Board member of the Chamber, arrived early in the morning to set up a giant pumpkin and hay bale display, which was very popular with all the visitors and provided a great photo opportunity.
Each child who attended was able to take home their own pumpkin, thanks to the generosity of the Ruszkiewicz Farm. The farm provided six crates of pumpkins. Shuback Farms supplied a crate of jack-o-lanterns and visitors enjoyed apples and apple cider donated by Maskers Orchards. Student volunteers and community members engaged the children in many creative activities including: pumpkin painting, Lego building, kite flying, guessing the weight of pumpkins and bubble making.
