Story by Jennifer O’Connor
During the Village of Warwick Board meeting on Mon., May 15, Trustee Bill Lindberg spoke about the “Red Umbrella Tour” he attended on Sun., May 14. The “walk-about” tour, sponsored by the Town of Warwick Historical Society, showcases the rich history of the Village of Warwick.
“It’s a fabulous tour through the Village. I found it very interesting and I learned a lot,” said Trustee Lindberg, who added that Mayor Michael Newhard “pitched in” and gave the tour on behalf of Michael Bertolini who typically gives the tours.
The Mayor and Trustee Lindberg both encourage residents to embark on the tour which takes place on the third Sunday of each month, now through Sept. The tours begin at the A.W. Buckbee Center, located at 2 Colonial Ave. in Warwick, and include the Old School Baptist Meeting House, Baird’s Tavern and other historical buildings as well as the Railroad Station.
Tickets are free for members of the Warwick Historical Society and children 12 and under. The cost for non-members is $10. For more information about the tour or the Warwick Historical Society call 986-3236, ext. 106 or visit www.whsny.org.
In Trustee Barry Cheney’s report, he reminded residents that there are two bins – one having compost and the other wood chips – in Veteran’s Memorial Park for Village residents to use.
“We used the Village mulch for several years and my gardens look spectacular,” said Trustee Eileen Patterson.
Patterson then gave a report that the flower pots for the Village are almost ready and should be out in mid-to-late June. The pots are funded by donations from residents and businesses.
