Nancy Scheinert will be honored as the 2016 Pine Island Citizen of the Year by the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce at their 2016 Annual Social and Installation of Officers on Sun., Oct. 30 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at the Landmark Inn, located at 526 Rte. 94 in Warwick.
Scheinert is a kindergarten instructional aide at Sanfordville Elementary School. She has been a vital contributor to the annual Pine Island Black Dirt Feast every year since its inception in 2009. She has recruited numerous high school students to perform duties such as “runners” and “servers” for the feast. She is also the director of the very popular Pine Island Summer Recreation Program and supervises both the high school student counselors and the young children who attend the camp. She will also be recognized for the outreach she has established to aid various people in need, particularly those experiencing medical emergencies.
Haysom & Henderson to be Honored
The Chamber will also be honoring Cheetah Haysom with a Distinguished Service Award for her book, “Pride and Produce.” It documents the history of the farms and current day-to-day life of farm families in Pine Island, Florida, and Goshen. In addition the Chamber will recognize Maya Henderson, a Warwick High School junior, with the Youth Achievement Award. Maya’s extensive list of community services includes: active participation in two 4-H clubs, serving the Hudson Valley Honor Flight Veterans, helping at Pine Island Pumpkinfest, teaching a cartooning class at the Albert Wisner Library and establishing two Little Free Libraries.
