The theme of this year’s National Skilled Nursing Care Week was “Celebrating Life’s Stories.” There were many opportunities for the residents of Schervier Pavilion, a skilled nursing facility on the Warwick Campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System, to tell their life stories during the week long celebration.
Established by the American Health Care Association (AHCA) in 1967 and always beginning on Mother’s Day, National Skilled Nursing Care Week, formerly known as National Nursing Home Week, was designed to provide an opportunity to recognize the role of skilled nursing care centers in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The week at Schervier Pavilion began on Sun., May 13 with entertainment by popular song and dance man Kevin Curry in the main dining room and later that afternoon, residents were invited to a Mother’s Day Tea. The following day, during opening ceremonies, which featured a special buffet of cakes and pastries, Village of Warwick Mayor Michael Newhard presented a proclamation from the Village. Mayor Newhard also praised Schervier Pavilion for its service to the community.
During the remainder of the week residents had an opportunity to enjoy special events and musical entertainment.
