Bob and Joan Palumbo, who were married in 1959, were actually celebrating the date of their anniversary on Tues., Jun. 27 during a couple’s celebration for residents held at Schervier Pavilion, a skilled nursing facility on the Warwick campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System.
Among the many couples also sharing cake and refreshments in the Forest Hall dining room were Tom and Sondra De Pace, who said it was love at first sight on their blind date arranged by friends. They were married a year later in 1962 and the steak dinner wedding for 250 people cost $6 per person.
Ed and Marge Hodas were the longest married couple. Athough they were neighbors, they had never met until 1948 when Ed finished his military service with the Navy. They were married in 1951 and have been together for over 65 years.
Recreation Aide Sue Ernhout, who introduced all the couples present, also entertained her audience with humorous answers by young children to questions about love and marriage. Cellist Alex Prizgintas provided musical entertainment. Chaplain Roserita DuFresne gave the invocation before the cake and refreshments were served.
