Students in the Orange-Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Education Fashion & Interior Design class were busy crocheting red hats for babies born in February, which has been designated as American Heart Month. The effort is part of a program called ‘Little Hats, Big Hearts’ and, in conjunction with the American Heart Association, it is designed to bring awareness of congenital heart defects in newborns. Instructor Holly Toth, with teaching assistant Basha Urbanski, works with the students, who crochet during their down-time when they are done with their regular fashion assignments. Many are even crocheting the hats at home. Yvonna Melville, of the Class of 2013 (second from left) is pictured helping students learn to crochet. Kayla Anderson (left), a Warwick High School student in Warwick NY, is one of the participants in the project.
